HSF opens Namibia’s House of Democracy

On the 12 May 2014, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, together with its partners and various stakeholders witnessed the inauguration of the House of Democracy in Dr Frans Indongo Windhoek West, Windhoek by the Honorable Dr Theo Ben-Gurirab, Speaker of the National Assembly.

The event also highlighted the launch of the “Namibia Elections Support Programme” which is a collaborative project by the Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, with support of the federal German Government.  

The project includes hosting public lectures, providing election campaign strategy training to political parties and providing the public with the necessary information to promote participation in the November 2014 National Assembly and Presidential elections. 

In his main address, the Hon. Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab commended the Hanns Seidel Foundation on its endeavors within Namibia, as it continues to collaborate and build onto the efforts of the Namibian government.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Namibia, Onno Huckmann was amongst various invited dignitaries to the opening ceremony. In his speech he wished the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the best of success for all its projects in Namibia. He also added that with the inauguration of the “House of Democracy” and the launch of the “Namibia Elections Support Programme” the fine spirit of co-operation between Namibia and Germany will lead to a better understanding of two nations and People.

Namibians in attendance were encouraged to make use of the organizational synergies represented at the House of Democracy.
