Book Launching and Book Signing of "Habibie & Ainun"

The former President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, launched the second time his autobiographical book “Habibie & Ainun”. At the first book launching at beginning of 2011 the original Indonesian version had been presented. On 23rd December 2011 he introduced the German, English and Arabic translation to a broad audience under following distinctive titles: in English “Habibie & Ainun, Power of Love - The True Story of the Former President and his Wife”, and in German “Habibie & Ainun, Ein Glück dass es Gott gibt - Spuren der Liebe”.

The translations aim at enabling a wider audience to read Prof. Habibie’s book, which became a bestseller in Indonesia. The book describes the intimate and true relationship between former Indonesian President Prof. Habibie and his wife during their 48 year-long marriage. She accompanied Prof. Habibie to Germany, where he did his Ph.D. and made a career as manager in the aircraft industry. In 1974 the couple Habibie and Ainun returned to Indonesia and Prof. Habibie became CEO of the new state owned Indonesian aircraft enterprise. His political career started in 1978 as Minister for Technology and Research and later on, from 1998 and 1999, as Vice President and President of the Republic of Indonesia initiating the democratic transformation process of Indonesia. His wife, Hasri Ainun Habibie, remained also in difficult stages of life steadfastly at his side. As medical doctor by profession she was committed to initiate various social organizations in Indonesia. She died in May 2010 at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Hospital in Munich after suffering from cervical cancer.

Prof. Dr. B. J. Habibie has a longstanding friendship with Hanns-Seidel-Foundation, which started under the former Director of HSF in Indonesia and recent Head of the Institute for International Cooperation at HSF Headquarters, Mr. Christian Hegemer. The Hanns-Seidel-Foundation cooperates also closely with the Habibie Center, established by Prof. Habibie to promote Democracy and Rule of Law in Indonesia since 1999. Both organizations have been able to conduct numerous seminars, workshops and lectures on topics mentioned above. The Habibie Center still represents one of the most reputable think tank in Indonesia and is a valuable partner of HSF Headquarters and its branch office in Indonesia.
