Our Work in Vietnam

Country:
Vietnam

Involved in projects since:
1988

Project office:
Hanoi, Vietnam (since 2011)

Country representative:
Dr. Axel Neubert

Project Work in Vietnam:
Our projects in Vietnam initially targeted at providing a multidimensional development platform for the Doi-Moi Policy (Renovation Policy), which was launched in 1986 and represented the economic reforms. Since then, Vietnam has made the transition from a developing country to a lower middle-income country. However, many challenges remain; therefore HSF supports programmes aiming at economic transformation, environmental protection as well as sustainable economic and social development. In addition, the integration of Vietnam into the global political spectrum and the ASEAN-Community has been supported by HSF since 1995. The foundation also assists its Vietnamese partners with education programmes and organizes seminars for policy makers. Currently, HSF is focusing on the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which promote sustainable development after 2015.

  • Inclusive Society
Vietnam has experienced very rapid economic growth which has a lasting effect on the society. However, while the living standards have been improved and the poverty rate has declined dramatically, many people are still employed in the informal sector without any social security. HSF supports and advises the Institute of Labour Science and Social Affairs (ILSSA) on policy recommendations and implementation of inclusive social protection. HSF also cooperates closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in implementing international standards and developing best practices for sustainable development in Vietnam.
  • Environmental awareness and protection
Due to the geographical position of Vietnam with its long coast line and two big river deltas, the country is seriously affected by climate change and rising sea level. Supporting Vietnam in developing and implementing environmental protection strategies is therefore crucial for future generations. HSF cooperates with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) as well as the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE), with the aim of developing national strategies and policies for environmental protection and sustainable green growth. HSF also supports the Dragon Institute for Climate Change in Can Tho in its researches on the impacts of climate change in the Mekong Delta.

Project Goal:
In reference to an Inclusive Society as well as Environmental Awareness and Protection, HSF seeks to reach the following goals:

  • Improve the regulatory framework to achieve the SDG 10.4 towards greater equality
  • Improve the regulatory framework to achieve the SDG 12.2 towards sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
  • Promote the climate-specific contribution of the CLMV - countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) to the SDGs

Target Group:

  • National and regional policy makers
  • Local and regional research institutes
  • Civil society groups
